Daphne Ashbrook Whirled Tour 2010 DVD

“Daphne Ashbrook – Whirled Tour” takes viewers on a global journey into the world of Doctor Who conventions, from Chicago to the U.K. to Vancouver, through the eyes of one of the franchise’s most popular companions, Daphne Ashbrook.

The DVD begins in November 2009, when three of the stars of the Doctor Who movie, Daphne Ashbrook, Paul McGann and Yee Jee Tso, reunited for the first time since the 1996 filming, at the Midwest’s prime Doctor Who convention, “Chicago Tardis”. With the highest recorded attendance ever, this was their most successful convention to date, demonstrating the significant interest in the TV movie, which served as a bridge between the classic series and the current series. The movie DVD was at long last released in February 2011 after many years of anticipation by fans.

During the convention Daphne, who portrayed companion Dr. Grace Holloway, and her fellow Who veterans hosted many well-received panels, taking fans behind-the-scenes of the film’s shooting. But one of the convention’s hidden highlights was the interview with Daphne and Paul done by Ken Deep of Doctor Who Podshock. It’s probably the only existing intimate interview with the two stars together who talk openly and humorously about various aspects of making the movie, as well as offering fascinating perspectives on the life of working actors

The retrospective then moves to England where Daphne attended several other Who events. In November 2010, Daphne was the guest of the Derby Doctor Who group, the Whoovers. Then Daphne, Paul, Yee Jee and Sylvester McCoy headlined Dimensions in Newcastle-on-Tyne, and were featured on a panel moderated by Scottish funny man Charlie Ross. This DVD features highlights of both events.
